RULES FOR CAPITALIZATION

 

Capitalization is used for:

 

1. The first word in a sentence and the first word in a quotation

Example: Wudy hopes in will be better.

                 “Don’t make noise, please.”

 

1. proper nouns and proper adjectives, including cities, states, countries, geographical sites, streets, companies, organizations, titles which are attached to a name.

Examples: Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Banjarese food, Barabai, Hulu Sungai Tengah, Kalimantan Selatan, Barito River, Meratus Mountains, Jalan Sutoyo S. / Sutoyo S. Street, Mitra Megah Profitamas, Green Peace, Doctor Gladys, General Jono.

 

1. Initials

Examples: F. D. Roosevelt, M. Rafadillah, Rudy S. Arifin

 

1. Days of the week, months of the year.

Examples: We will meet again next Tuesday.

                  The test will be held in January.

 

1. Pronoun “I”

Example: Budi and I will not go.

 

1. Religious, national and public holidays.

Examples: Idul Adha, Tujuh Belas Agustus, Christmas, Waisak

 

1. All important words in the titles

Example: “An Introduction to Linguistics for the Language Teacher”
